Let's try adding a text by clicking on Insert Text button.

InsertObjectText

The newly created text object is now visible in both Preview window and Timeline. In Preview window, the text object will have a blue selection rectangle and a resize and a rotate handle. Drag the resize handle horizontally do resize the text area. Drag the rotate handle to rotate the object. Holding a shift button while rotating the object will rotate the object with 15 degrees increment. To move the object, simple drag the while text area.

In Selected object properties tab, you will now see three sub-tabs with the first one as Text tab. Here you can modify the text font, content, alignment, color, transparency, etc.

In Timeline, you will see a text object bar showing the duration of 3.00 seconds. Each object in the timeline have Show time and Exit time. Show time is the time when the object is starts showing/playing and the Exit time is the time the object will disappear/stop playing. This new text object will show in 0s and will disappear in 3s. Now lets try playing the movie by clicking the Play button at the top of the Preview window or by pressing Ctrl + 1. Now lets change the show time to 1s by dragging the start of the object bar. Notice that the duration changes while you dragging. Change the exit time to 2s by dragging the end of the object bar. Now let's play the movie again and notice that now the text will show in 1s and disappear in 2s.

Now click on the effect tab at the Selected object properties window to see the effect settings for this text object. Notice that when you drag around the object timeline, the Show after and Hide after duration text box changes. You can also change the Show time and Exit time by entering a value in these text boxes.

You can make an object to show forever (eg: show as long as the current scene duration) by clicking on Hide after combo and select Show Forever. Now you will notice that a lock icon is showing at the end of the object bar. From now on, when you change the scene duration, the text Exit time will always automatically moved with it.

Object can be made to start invisible, waiting for an action (such as on-press action on other object) to make it visible. To do so, click on Show after combo and select Hide at start.

obj-hide-at-start

You will notice that the object bar color changes to blue, showing that this object will be made invisible at start. This object will only become visible/active when other object show/activates it through on-press/on-release/on-over action. This is a very powerful feature to make an interactive movie where clicking an object activates/trigger other objects. This type of object has its own timing. Eg: when the scene is paused, the object will not pause but will still keep playing until the end of it's duration.

Timeline ruler is located at the top of the timeline. A red vertical bar within this ruler indicate the end of the scene. Drag this bar to adjust the scene duration. Note that you cannot make the scene duration less than the latest object Exit time. Next to the vertical bar is a Pause/Rewind/Go to next scene icon. When it is showing clip0014 the current scene will jump to the next scene at the end of its duration. When it is showing , the current scene will pause at the end of its duration. When it is showing , the current scene will rewind/play back from the beginning at the end of its duration. Click this icon to toggle between each mode.
